Darcy Nishi
Personal Bio
Darcy Emiko Nishi, a Sacramento native, grew up in the Japanese American community there. Performing annually at the NorCal Cherry Blossom Festival in San Francisco with Toshiye Kawamura’s Sakura Minyo Do Ko Kai as both a Japanese folkdancer and shamisen player. She attended UC Davis double majoring in Economics and International Relations with a minor in Japanese. She then obtained her MA in Economics from Saitama University in Saitama, Japan. Settling in San Francisco after graduate school, she became involved in the JA community there, joining queer Asian and JA organizations such as Omusubi and APIQWTC. Futhermore, volunteering at Kimochi (senior meal program) and being a founding member of the Japantown Rainbow Coalition. She is also a Minister’s Assistant at eh Walnut Grove Buddhist Church and a member of Nishimai, a Japanese folk dance ensemble consisting of three Sansei sisters from the Sacramento area who perform odori across Northern CA.
